Happy New Year Z. Here are some ideas for welcoming in 2022.
Highmark First Night Pittsburgh kicks off Friday at 6 p.m. The event that welcomes the New Year will feature four large inflatable bunnies, part of an art installation titled “Intrude” by Parer Studio.
There are indoor and outdoor events throughout the 14-block radius of the city’s Cultural District. The Dollar Bank Kids Fireworks are at 6:05 pm The Grand Finals of Pittsburgh’s Future features live music and fireworks at midnight. There are four stages. The musical headliner is the Byron Nash Trio.
Most of the events will take place outdoors, including a mix of comedy, dance, music, magic, drama, visual art and more, along with hands-on activities.
The Williams Sing-Off contest will announce the winner. There will be a parade as well as acrobats and fire and ice sculpture shows. Arcade Comedy Theater will feature local comedian Suzanne Lawrence. Several galleries will be open.
Proof of covid-19 vaccination required for indoor events as well as masks. Masks recommended for outdoor activities.
The event is free. VIP tickets cost $ 50.
The Frick Pittsburgh at Point Breeze hosts a series of family-friendly outdoor activities from noon to 7 p.m. Friday through Sunday. The museum’s first “Winter Party” includes ice skating, carriage rides, an outdoor walking tour and hot drinks at Café at the Frick.
There is a display of lights and a kissing ball under the covered entrance to Clayton. Photo opportunities will be available near a large vacation package. There will be an outdoor story hour at 12:15 p.m. on Saturday and buskers from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.
Reservations are recommended.
Masks are mandatory for all indoor activities.
Laughing out loud
The Pittsburgh Improv the Waterfront in Homestead welcomes comedian Steve Byrne at 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. on Friday, 7 p.m. and 12:30 a.m. on Saturday and 7 p.m. on Sunday.
Byrne made his New York City debut at the Comedy Cellar, the Comic Strip, and the Gotham Comedy Club. During his 20-year career, he has been on stage in Los Angeles, California, at the Comedy Store, The Improv, and The Laugh Factory.
He was on “Comedy Central”.
Byrne has appeared in “Jimmy Kimmel”, “Conan”, “The Late, Late Show” and “The Tonight Show”

The “London Libations New Year’s Eve Event” begins at 4 p.m. Friday at 1700 Penn Ave. in the Strip District. There will be Union Jack themed banners as well as a disco ball that drops at 7 p.m., midnight in London.
There will be British themed party favors and noise makers.
A pre-made party playlist will be played with UK artists. British themed cocktails will be served. The plan is to celebrate 2022 earlier for those who don’t want to stay out until midnight.

Lights almost out
It’s the last weekend of Kennywood’s Holiday Lights.
The 10th annual event at West Mifflin Park features over a million lights and Pennsylvania’s tallest Christmas tree – at 100 feet tall. The Jack Rabbit and the Grand Prix are two of the rides that will be open, weather permitting. The event includes an exhibit of Pittsburgh Independent Hi-Railers model trains and a petting zoo.
New food and snack options include apple pie pizza, hot snickerdoodle cookies, s’mores, flavored hot drinks, and seasonal beers.
This is the first time that the park has welcomed visitors in January.
