Loughborough-linked women’s hockey players are once again ready for the world stage as the host nations have confirmed their squads for the Commonwealth Games.

A total of 14 players with Loughborough connections will represent England, Scotland and Wales respectively in Birmingham later this summer.

The England squad includes the trio of experienced alumni Laura Unsworth (hockey’s most successful Olympian), Maddie Hinch and Giselle Ansley.

They will be joined by Sabbie Heesh, Lizzie Neal (alumnus and traveling reserve), as well as current students Ellie Rayer and Izzy Petter – who both won bronze at the Tokyo Olympics.

Five other players will join the Wales squad as fellow Tokyo bronze medalists Leah Wilkinson and Sarah Jones have been selected alongside fellow alumni Beth Bingham, Hannah Cozens and Phoebe Richards.

Scotland have also announced that former pupil Robyn Collins and current student Charlotte Watson will compete in England’s second city at the Games.

The 2022 Commonwealth Games will take place from Thursday July 28 to Monday August 8.
