Rebecca Lowe re-signs with NBC to host Premier League coverage: Source

Good news for Premier League fans in the United States: Athleticism has learned that Rebecca Lowe will continue her role as lead studio host for NBC Sports Group’s Premier League coverage. Lowe’s contract was up in the summer, but there is an agreement in place for Lowe to continue hosting NBC’s Premier League pre- and post-match shows.

Lowe has been with NBC since acquiring the rights to the property in 2013 and she moved to the United States from England for the job.

Athleticism learned that Lowe’s contract with NBC Sports will follow in years with the company’s recent deal with the Premier League which runs until the end of the 2027-28 season. Last November, NBC Sports extended its partnership with the Premier League to exclusively broadcast games in the United States. The new six-year contract will run from the start of the 2022-23 season until the end of the 2027-28 campaign.

Athleticism estimated the value of this deal at $2.7 billion. All 380 games of each season will be broadcast live on NBC Universal platforms in English and Spanish. Under Lowe’s new contract, she is expected to continue her work as an Olympic host as well as a role in the Kentucky Derby.

Lowe was a guest on the Sports Media Podcast last August and was asked if her career future was professionally tied to NBC having Premier League rights.

“Well, I think we’ve seen with the NHL and the loss of the NHL to NBC that anything can happen,” Lowe said at the time. “I was at Setanta Sports and it fell apart under my feet. ESPN lost the rights (to the World Cup) when I was there. I really don’t take anything for granted. I don’t see myself bound nothing and no one. I love my job. I love doing the Premier League. I love working on the Premier League at NBC.

I think they’ve done an incredible job of raising the profile of this league in this country to something that I don’t think anyone saw coming, and certainly not when I joined in 2013. I joined in thinking I will be here for a few years and return to England. It would just be a great experience. It’s become a bit of a juggernaut, which I’m incredibly proud of.

NBC’s Premier League viewers will have a different sound on their August game broadcasts as Peter Drury has been brought in to replace Arlo White as the package’s lead announcer. White had been the primary play-by-play voice for NBC Sports Group’s Premier League coverage since the network acquired US media rights. White is now the main broadcaster for the international series LIV Golf.

Drury commentated this season for CBS Sports’ Champions League coverage. He has long worked with ITV Sport as a No. 2 football commentator and has recently worked for Amazon Prime Video for its UK Premier League coverage as well as BT.

Lowe’s retention gives NBC’s Premier League fans some stability over the high-end talent that has been part of their weekend audience for the past eight years.
