LETHBRIDGE, Alberta. –
In a world hit by COVID, even Santa Claus has to play by the rules.
For the second year in a row, the man in red met the children of the beautiful list virtually via Zoom.
By renting a studio in Lethbridge, Santa is also now able to take private reservations for those who wish to take a photo with him.
“This year, we just opened and we’re just doing a few studio photoshoots, and that sort of thing,” Santa said.
And he does this out of the goodness of his heart.
“Just to keep things going, the children to continue and the hope of Christmas to be alive here in Lethbridge. “
True, Santa Claus described setting up the studio in a short period of time as a “great challenge”.
“But I have a few good elves, and man, they got it quickly,” Santa said.
“It was amazing how fast they worked and what we did. “
SAFETY IN THE TOP
COVID-19 security is a priority for Santa Claus. Children cannot sit on his lap to take pictures and everyone must be masked.
It doesn’t bother the Gunderson family who were delighted that their daughter had met Santa for the first time this year.
“I think we just appreciate that they were ready to pivot,” said Ashlyn.
“It’s our baby’s first Christmas, so we would be very sad if we didn’t get to see Santa at all.”
For Ashlyn’s husband, Rob, avoiding the hustle and bustle at the mall during the peak holiday season was what sold him.
“Yes, it was definitely safer and more private, and it was a bit more comfortable honestly. Instead of the image of the big mall and the big lineup, it was kind of nice to walk into the little house setting and yes, cozy that way, ”Rob described.
FATHER CHRISTMAS CANCELED
Park Place Mall has canceled the appearance of Santa Claus for the second year in a row, due to issues related to COVID-19.
It was disappointing for many eager to share their wishlist with old St. Nick.
“I’m 10 years old now, so I’ve been doing this for quite a long time,” said Ella, 10.
“It doesn’t help that I have a new baby sister, and since there is no mall this year, we can’t start this tradition for her and it’s her first Christmas, so it’s really disappointing. “
Santa has been taking pictures with children in the Park Place Mall for 28 years, and he hopes that next year things will get a little more normal.
